The Martian is 2015’s entry into the wave of recent, high budget space exploration/adventure films. The Martian stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, and Sean Bean. This is the story of astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) whom is stranded on Mars after a severe storm and is trying to survive and contact his team at NASA to rescue him.

First Thought
The movie looks interesting and could potentially have a more developed, tight-knit story than other space based movies we’ve seen in the recent past. For the first few seconds of the trailer, I was thinking Interstellar spin-off because of the Space exploration aspect + Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon, but quickly came to terms that this is a stand alone film that can strongly hold it’s own. Also, I thought I was over this but why am I still confusing Kristen Wiig with Jennifer Aniston? I thought I’ve seen enough of both of their movies to distinguish the two but apparently not since I had to visit IMDB to confirm which one was in this movie.

The Martian may not have the Interstellar/Gravity hype behind it (the latter in my opinion is highly overrated), but it has created the right first impression and looks like something that people should enjoy in November. I’ll add this along with the 23 other movies I have saved on my Fandango movie list for the rest of 2015. Looking forward to seeing more as we draw closer.
